“A friend of mine recommended Stonewall when I fell victim to a hit and run which dented my Subaru and destroyed a side mirror. Kyle and his team did a fantastic job repairing the dent, installing a new mirror and they did a bit of extra work I had requested as well. They even took it upon themselves to give the car a wash and detail which was unexpected but so appreciated. Will recommend them to anyone I know and will definitely come back if I ever need work done.”

Our Process

1

Estimate

Our techs will perform a comprehensive assessment to identify all visible and hidden rust, and closely inspect areas where rust is likely to form, such as wheel wells and undercarriage, near and under the sunroof, trim, and moldings, or where your mirrors are attached.

2

Rust Elimination

Surface rust can be handled by sanding the patch of rust down to the remaining metal beneath. Severe rust damage would be repaired by cutting the rusted section from the panel and welding in a replacement section.

3

Surface Preparation

Once any rust has been eliminated, body filler is added to bond the newly exposed metal, and then thoroughly sanded down until the bonded area is perfectly flush with the surrounding surface.

4

Auto Painting

Whatever paint or finish options you choose, our auto paint technicians skillfully apply these to your vehicle, ensuring an exact color match and long-term durability of your car’s finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rust is the corrosion that occurs when iron or its alloys, such as steel, react with oxygen and moisture. The chemical reaction produces iron oxide, the reddish-brown substance we commonly refer to as rust. Over time, rust can weaken your car’s metal, making it brittle and causing it to deteriorate.
Look for visible signs like reddish-brown patches on the body or undercarriage. Additionally, check for bubbling paint, flaking metal, or any metal areas that feel weak or brittle.
Once rust starts, it can spread quickly if left untreated. Moisture, especially in saltwater or acidic environments, accelerates the rusting process. So if you notice rust on your car, it’s important to get it inspected and repaired as soon as possible, before the problem worsens.
Rust can be dangerous if it compromises the structural integrity of the vehicle. Rust on critical components such as the frame, suspension, or brake lines can lead to safety issues.
Repairing rust on a vehicle involves several steps to remove the rust and prevent it from returning. The professionals at Stonewall Collision & Auto Paint would perform a thorough inspection to identify all areas affected by rust, including under your car, inside the wheel wells, and around any other susceptible areas. A wire brush or sandpaper is used to remove the loose rust, while a grinder or sander might be necessary to remove deeper rust. If the rust damage is severe, cutting out the rusted section and welding in a new metal patch may be necessary. Then body filler would be applied, thoroughly sanded, and smoothed to level the repaired surface. Your car would then be prepared with a rust-inhibiting primer to prevent future rust. Then Stonewall’s paint pros would apply paint to the repaired area, ensuring a perfect color match. Finally, a clear coat would be applied for added protection, and to restore your car’s shine.
This depends on the terms of your vehicle’s warranty. Some manufacturers offer limited coverage against rust and corrosion, while others may not. Check your warranty documentation or contact your dealer for specific information.
Regular inspection and maintenance can help catch rust early and prevent significant damage to your vehicle. Especially in winter or coastal areas, wash your vehicle regularly to remove salt and other corrosive substances. Apply a good quality car wax to create a protective barrier against moisture. Promptly address any chips and scratches that can allow moisture to reach the metal underneath. For greater protection, consider professional rust proofing treatments, especially for the undercarriage and other vulnerable areas.
